How do I know if I have depression? +
Symptoms of depression can include persistent sadness, lack of interest in previously enjoyed activities, changes in appetite or weight, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping, energy loss, feelings of worthlessness, or difficulty concentrating. Can depression be treated? +
Yes, depression is treatable, and a variety of effective treatments are available. Lifestyle changes can also play an important role in managing depression. Your counsellor at Breathe Counselling will work closely with you to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
What should I do if I think a loved one is depressed? +
Encourage them to seek professional help from a counsellor. Be supportive and empathetic in your approach, listen to their feelings without judgement, and offer to help them find resources or even accompany them to appointments.
Are there different types of depression? +
Yes, depression can manifest in many forms. Major depressive disorder is the most common and can interfere with a person's ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy life. Other forms include postpartum depression, psychotic depression, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Each form of depression is unique and may require different counselling approaches.
