What We Offer at Our Rockingham Clinic

Our Rockingham practice brings together counsellors and a psychologist with a range of specialisations, so you can find the right fit for your situation. We offer:

  • Individual counselling: One-on-one sessions for adults dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, life transitions, burnout or trauma.
  • Couples counselling: Structured support for couples navigating communication breakdowns, conflict, trust issues, infidelity or emotional disconnection.
  • Family therapy:  Sessions that include parents and children or other family members to improve communication and resolve conflict at home.
  • Trauma therapy: Evidence-based approaches including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and IFS (Internal Family Systems) for processing traumatic experiences and reducing their ongoing impact.
  • Psychology services: Our registered psychologist offers Medicare-rebatable sessions for clients with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from their GP.
  • Clinical supervision: For practising counsellors seeking professional development and supervised practice hours.

We use a range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method for couples, Narrative Therapy, Schema Therapy, EMDR and IFS. Your therapist will work with you to find the approach that best fits your needs. Therapy at Breathe Counselling is always collaborative, never one-size-fits-all.

What to Expect at Your First Session

If you’ve never been to counselling before, it’s natural to feel a little uncertain about what happens in that first appointment. Here’s what to expect when you visit our Rockingham clinic:

  1. Booking – Browse our therapists’ profiles on this page and choose someone whose experience and approach resonate with you. Book online directly through their profile or call us on 0422 275 494.
  2. Arrival – Our clinic is located at Suite 8–9, 63 Penguin Road, Safety Bay, within the City of Rockingham. There is plenty of free parking directly outside. The clinic is a short walk from Safety Bay foreshore and just next to Safety Bay IGA, Bayside Barista and Café Barco.
  3. Your first session – Your counsellor will take time to understand what brought you in, your background and what you’d like to get out of therapy. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. The first session is about building trust, setting goals and deciding together how to move forward.
  4. Ongoing sessions – Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly. Standard counselling sessions are 60 minutes. Psychology sessions are 50 minutes. Longer 90-minute and 2-hour sessions are also available with some counsellors if you prefer more extended work.
