What to Expect at Your First Session

If you’ve never been to counselling before, or you’re coming back after a break, it’s natural to feel uncertain about what the first appointment involves. Here’s what to expect at our Albany clinic:

  1. Booking – Browse our counsellors’ profiles on this page and choose someone whose experience and approach feel right for you. Book online directly through their profile or call us on 0422 275 494.
  2. Arrival – Our clinic is on Level 1 at 125 Grey Street West, Albany, in the central business district, close to York Street and Albany Town Hall. The building is a shared office space. Level 1 is accessible with stairs.
  3. Your first session – Your counsellor will take time to understand what brought you to our clinic, your background and what you’d like to achieve from the counselling. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. The first session is about building trust, setting goals and deciding together how to move forward.
  4. Ongoing sessions – Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly. Standard counselling sessions are 60 minutes. Longer sessions may be available with some counsellors if you prefer more extended work, just ask when you book.
